The 2013 Plainfield Goalie Wars Challenge is open to all goal keepers from U9 to u18. Players will compete against players from their own age group. Play will be limited to team goalkeepers (meaning the player regularly plays keeper for their team). This challenge is open to Rec, Travel and Premier.
Goalie Wars will be played on a 30 yard long by 20 yard wide field divided in half by a midfield line. A U10-U12 size goal sits on both ends of the field. Each goalkeeper plays in one half of the field defending their goal, while trying to score on the goal of the opposing goalkeeper.
Attempts on a goal may come from a punt, roll, dropkick, throw or shot from the ground.
Just like a normal game of soccer, the goalkeeper has 6 seconds of receiving the ball and has unlimited steps within his or her half of the field. A goalkeeper is not allowed in the opposing players half of the field. If a successful save is made, play continues without hesitation or pause. If a rebound occurs that crosses the midfield line, only the keeper whose half of play the ball is in has rights to the ball. A goal is awarded when the entire ball crosses the goal line, then play is restarted by the scored upon goalkeeper. In the event of a goal or out of bounds, play is resumed from the goal line or end line by the goalkeeper owning the rights to the ball.
Games last for two halves-each 3 minutes –with 30 second break between halves to change sides. We will have extra balls on hand and specialist (teammates) for ball recovery that will place balls on the sides of the goals.
The formats of games will be determined by number of players to enter the challenge.
Friends, coaches, and parents should support their goalie, but not coach their goalie. The referee’s word is final!
